The Organizing Committee and the judges of the European Championship 2016

The Gazprom Dragon European Championship 2016 in St. Petersburg is bringing together the most authoritative team of race officers and judges. All of them have an impressive experience in holding international regattas of the highest level especially in the Dragon class.

Undoubtedly, the Principal Race Officer, Vladimir Komel, is one of the main actors of the upcoming Championship. The choice of the PRO the Organizing Authority made was not accidental: Vladimir was the Principal Race Officer of almost all International sailing competitions that were held in St. Petersburg during the past 10 years or even more. His know-how for this event will be his extensive knowledge of the sailing area and its wind conditions, that can be tricky sometimes.

The International Jury Chairman Ives Leglise is also well-known in the sailing world of St. Petersburg. An international PRO and International Judge, as well as a full Dragon class measurer, he has already been to St. Petersburg in 2013 by the invitation of the organizers of the Open Russian Championship to be the Chief Measurer. This time Yves will head the International Jury delivering verdicts on the legality of decisions taken by sailors on the race course.

The role of the Chief Measurer this year will be taken by nobody less than the Chief of the Technical Department of the German Shipbuilding Union and the Chief Measurer of the Dragon class Günter Ahlers.

The high qualification of judges matches the general level of the event organization. The Head of the Organizing Committee Tatiana Kurbatova is focused on delivering the utmost of the event, a Championship that will be remembered by the participants for a long time.

“We have a great team, the core of it has formed through the past five years working together at different competitions. I do not know any other regatta, where the organizing team would work with such a long-termed goal in their mind. Today, no doubt, we are ready and looking forward to welcoming the European Championship!”. To provide best hospitality service to the teams the organizers have built a pool of volunteers that will be there for the sailors to assist with any of their needs or requests.
