– Boris Alexandrovich, in the end of last year`s championship of Russia, you were awarded special prize “legend of class “Dracon”. You and your team took part in world championship, which took place in September Great Britain. What can you say about this regatta? Can you tell us yours impressions?
– Overall, we spend good time there. I took part in different international competitions last year, but it my first time at world championship. Nearly 80 yachts took part in the regatta. It`s not little, so judges decide to divide start line into 2 parts.
– What about your results at this regatta?
– It was not good championship for us. We rented a boat in Great Britain, but it was without sails. Our friends helped us and gave them, but they didn’t suit. We also had a lot of breakages during the race. First, electric pump was broken. We had to manually pump water out. Finally, it was just hard racing in Weymouth: we knew little about local waters, to be exact, we didn`t know something. And also weather conditions there were quite complex.
-Why they are so special?
We can’t predict changing of wind and current, at the same time and place current can changes several times during the race, so you never know what awaits you. It is necessary to be very attentive to changes of wind and current, and develop specific strategies.
– As a result, aren`t you disappointed by championship?
– Of course no! Participation in world competition is a chance to improve our skills . This championship gave us a great deal , we had to remember old experience Which will try at the championship of Russia. Although to be honest, I’m sailing other not at “dragon”, I prefer tourist boat. In Soviet times, the owners of “dragons” had less opportunities to participate in various types of regattas like now, but boat were more accessible. Now, fortunately , we can see that we have restored many old wooden boat.
