At 12 a.m. today at the St.Petersburg YC the decisive day of the Russian Dragon Open decisive day will start. Two races are planned. Current conditions: WSW, 8-10 knots, sunny.
Several crews still have chances to win the championship. Still the main contenders for gold remain Dmitry Samokhin (RUS 76) and Anatoly Loginov (RUS 27). There are only 2 points separate them in the standings after four races. But Mikhail Senatorov (RUS 31) and Vasiliy Senatorov (RUS 35), considering the discard, have a chance to win too.
In the “Dragon Classic” standings in the 4th race yesterday Sergey Bakharev (RUS 84) revived the intrigue: now between him and Victor Los (RUS 22) tiny 8 points gap. In the overall standings Marcus Brennecke (GER 11) remains the top contender for gold: three times German crew was second, just once – on the fifth place. To these may not agree Klaus Diederichs (GBR 758), and Hugo Steinbeck (SUI 311), who surprised everyone in the 4th race, finishing third. Swiss told what was wrong at the start of the Championship and what has changed after that:
– Well, we got it: here the best decision is to go right after the start. Sometimes in sailing everything has to work perfectly to get a good result and in some cases one piece of a machine falls apart: in one case in was tactics – not knowing the race area, so everything falls apart. It was not unexpected, but it was good to be back up to speed. I think the breeze is up now – it has been like this for last two days, then it came down a little bit at the lunch time; the weather is odd here, it’s variable and exciting, and we’ll see what Mother Nature brings for us today.
