Russian Dragon Open has started at the Yacht-club “Hercules”.
10 a.m. there was a skipper’ meeting and the opening ceremony. Before it, another crew applied – the Suisse yacht Pumper Nickel II. So, there are 25 teams participating in the Russian Dragon Open: 19 from Russia, 2 – from Switzerland, and one team from Great Britain, Germany, Finland and Monaco. At the opening ceremony the regatta director, Tatiana Kurbatova, according to the tradition – in two languages, welcomed all the guests and introduced the judges, umpires and the protest committee. After talking and receiving radio, the athletes went out to prepare their boats and gradually enter the Gulf of Finland.
At 12:00 a.m., as planned, the first race started. Although the meteorologists’ warnings, it all started in ideal conditions: the wind – 6-8 knots, the sun. But as soon as the boats go to the start, as the wind increased to 12 knots, and the rain began.
